My Review:
This was my first experience reading author Liz Curtis Higgs’ Scottish fiction—I’d only ever read her contemporary romance. All I can say is wow. It is a complete immersion into the 1700s Scottish countryside, kilts and all.
I stumbled through some of it because of the authentic brogue and vocabulary that Higgs uses. It adds to the feel of it all, but did slow the read down some. Still, this is an unforgettable story with unforgettable characters.
Higgs takes the reader on an emotional roller coaster with the depth of love and hurt conveyed between main characters Donald and Elisabeth. The loyalty and forgiveness of these two will make you stop and ponder what you would do in that situation.
Recommended for anyone who appreciates Scottish history and intense stories of God’s unending love.
