An inspiring re-imagining of the tale of Esther, a young Jewish woman thrust from a life of obscurity into a life of power, wealth, intrigue . . . and tender love.
See the story of Esther in an entirely new way—with all the political intrigue and tension you remember, but told as a passionate and tender love story between a young man and woman. Misunderstood by many, King Xerxes was a powerful but lonely man. Esther’s beauty caught the eye of the young king, but it was her spirit that captured his heart.
Imagine anew the story of Esther, one of our faith’s great heroines, destined to play a key role in the history of Christianity.
My Review:
I enjoyed this book for many reasons—the details of the time, the characters themselves, the bringing of this story to life.
Anyone interested in biblical fiction will enjoy this tale. It is strictly a re-telling of Ether’s story and the author does acknowledge taking liberties with it. Regardless, it was enjoyable and I cared deeply for the characters involved.
My only complaint is that there were times I wanted to see more character interactions rather than being told something happened. I realize the book might border extreme lengths if everything was “shown,” but I wanted to get a feel for other players and their interactions with Esther.
Some of the writing was a bit choppy and textbookish at times, but the story still resonates and entertains.
Disclosure: I received a copy of this as an e-book in exchange for my honest review through Thomas Nelson’s Booksneeze program.
