Isn’t that cover to die for? Well, as you might know—covers are usually what sell me on the book but I was delightfully surprised at the content and story inside!
Author Pam Hillman‘s passion comes through her writing and the story of Livy’s desperate attempts to save these poor orphans. Stealing Jake (so appropriately titled) has a torrent of ups and downs in the plot that will keep you reading into the late hours of the night.
The romance between Livy and Jake is genuine and sweet and both have dark pasts that add further dimensions to the characters. The town and setting come to life and this is one historical romance you can get lost into.
An undercurrent of a deeper issue ties the whole book together—the exploitation of child labor. Despite current thought, this is still an issue throughout the world and something that the author does a good job of humanizing.
Highly recommended! You’ll enjoy this story from page one to the very end.
