Rebekah Hendricks dreams of a life far beyond her family’s farm in Oklahoma, and when dashing aviator Arthur Samson promised adventure in the big city, she is quick to believe he’s the man she’s meant to marry. My Review:
From the very first page, Rebekah’s voice pulls you in and won’t let you go. Spunky, adventurous and loyal, she is a protagonist you’ll root for all the way. With a jumble of men all vying for her attention, it is hard to pick out who exactly the “hero” is. Really, I had to just sit back and enjoy the ride.
Author Anne Mateer does a wonderful job of weaving together so many characters and making each of them memorable and genuine. With each character so vivid, it makes the realities and pain of the Spanish Influenza epidemic all the more real. I loved the time period and setting, which both felt so fresh rather than the typical time periods covered within most published novels. This book is fresh in every way and made for a delightful, easy read. Only caveat, it might have made me a little hypochondriac-ish, but I think I’ll get over that. I hope.
