Last week, I started a four-part interview series with the most interesting subject I’ve ever hosted on this blog. Myself. (Kidding, kidding.)
This week, the questions get a little deeper, and sometimes I wonder what this crazy interviewer was thinking. 🙂
12. When did you learn there was no Santa Claus? One Christmas I caught my parents shuffling around downstairs and I got out of bed to investigate. By then, I had already put the pieces together. I don’t even remember how old I was. (If you can’t tell by now, my long-term memory sucks.)
13. As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? A vet. Didn’t every kid? I grew out of that long before my first biology class. Science was never my thing. Then I turned my sights to writing, riding and reading for the rest of my life. So far, it’s working out well.
14. Who were your childhood heroes? My mommy and daddy.
15. Were you popular as a teenager? Far from it. I was the recluse. The bookworm. The horse-nut. Wait. I still am.
16. Did you feel different as a child? I was always comfortable in myself. Until middle school and friends deserted me. I took refuge in my horse activities, and I eventually learned it didn’t matter what others thought.
17. What were your favorite books, movies, movie stars, sports heroes, singers during your childhood? Books: Madeline L’Engle, Movie Stars: J.T.T (Jonathan Taylor Thomas) all the way. Sports heros: Not a sports buff. Singers: Shania Twain, N Sync (totally).
18. Do you remember the war? I remember 9/11 and the subsequent events as clear as day. It was a long, emotional day for everyone, and we watched the news every moment at school. I was a sophomore.
19. How did you meet your spouse? Describe your first date; your marriage proposal; your wedding and honeymoon. Hmm. Our meeting involved hairspray, rodeo queens and a sick horse. The first date may or may not have taken place at Chuckie Cheese (no, we weren’t that young…). The marriage proposal took place after dinner on a blustery Bellingham evening. The honeymoon involved two days at the beach, cut short by our excitement over our new house and we were anxious to get started on the necessary rennovations. So we painted, installed floors and scrubbed our way through the honeymoon. See my guest Keeper or Creeper post as to how we met!
20. Tell me about the birth of your first child? I’ll tell you when that happens. No plans for that quite yet.Â
Look for more of my “interview with myself” next Friday! Perhaps I’ll share the thing I dislike most about myself and the things I’m most proud of.
I never perceived you as a recluse in high school! You were vibrant and directed two musical revues. The bookworm aspect…totally. But then, we both were. Are. 😉
Thanks, Heather! I guess I was really thinking more of 7th to 8th grade versus high school. I only learned to come out of my shell because I had the most amazing friends in high school…
Terrific interview. Jonathon Taylor Thomas, huh? A little young for me, but he was cute! And I (still) have my own horse collection.
I totally had the big JTT poster in my room when I was age 12. 🙂
