In honor of National Recycling Week – don’t even ask how I know that – I’m recycling a few of my old blogs. It was time to dust them off and make them work for their keep.
Over the past two years, I’ve read countless books, but I only reviewed those I really enjoyed. Here is a list of my all-time favorites. (I can only think of a handful I would add to this list that I haven’t reviewed on my blog. One day, perhaps I’ll complete the list and review all of my favorites.)
DISCLAIMER – these are in no particular order. There are many, many more books that I’d recommend and have reviewed. I just really couldn’t them all…
The Hunger Games series – Hunger Games, Catching Fire, Mockingjay.
There isn’t much I can say about this series that hasn’t been echoed from the hills. People love this series (or strongly hate it). But you shouldn’t read it simply because of it’s popularity or the fact that the movie is coming out in March 2012 — read it because it is a truly phenomenal story and beautifully written.
A gripping, emotional and charged tale set in the Great Depression, Water for Elephants also turned into a great movie with Reese Witherspoon. But read the book first, really.
Speaking of Depression-era novels, Melanie Dobson’s Silent Order won a Carol Award this year and deserved every inch of it. If you like mobster tales, check it out!
If you follow me at all, you know I’m WWII-obsessed. So the rest of my top pics are set in that time period. Susan May Warren’s Sons of Thunder (also a Carol Award winner) truly took my breath away.
Sarah’s Key takes you to a dark time in France’s history and shows how even today, we have a hard time facing the past.
Kristina McMorris’ Letters From Home had me hooked from page one and the rich dialogue kept me yearning for more. Looking forward to her next novel, certainly!
Finally, I ought to include the whole trilogy, but it all started with A Distant Melody, and Sarah Sundin has made me a fan for life. You truly take a ride in the B17 cockpit of Sundin’s books and what a ride it is.
