We’ve officially had our brooder and our girls a week now and I have to say — I didn’t realize how much fun these chicks would be. The entertainment is endless.

We did “class photos” to show their growth. Their personalities have really come out and it’s fascinating.

Blondie is one of the ring leaders and yet one of the sweetest ones to hold. Her wings are coming in well and she’s been test flapping a lot.

Foghorn Leghorn lives up to the reputation of her breed – she’s the most dominant and she’s also the best flier so far.

MaryKate (and her twin, Ashley) are notorious for chasing the camera every time I take photos.

Jersey and Stripey are the two Rhode Island Reds and both are fairly outgoing. They like to peck my hand when I’m cleaning the cage. Darlings, really.

Hawkeye protests the most when it comes to being held, but then settles in and is quite a sweetie.

Goldie and Locks (named for obvious reasons) are also really sweet but they haven’t grown into their wings the way the rest of the flock has.

Voldemort (she who will not be named) might have that haunting, vulture-like look about her, but she’s another ring-leader and a sweet thing to hold.

The California Grey is affectionately named DiVito because she’s small, but loud. (Our birds have Hollywood-themed names, it seems.)

The Wellsummer is rather… bossy. We refer to her as the Boss. She’s not very friendly but her breed is the “quintessential” classic chicken breed.

Penguin is also a sweetie, but please know that my camera wasn’t cooperating and I realize the photo is blurry.

Adding some sticks to help teach the girls to roost has been entertaining too:

Until next time!
