My name is Nicole M. Miller and I live in Southwest Washington state with my husband and two boys on a small farm with chickens, ducks, horses, dogs, cats and more. Follow me online on Instagram and Facebook.
Until Our Time Comes: A Novel of WWII Poland – Releasing July 2nd, 2024 – The German invasion of Poland derails Adia Kensington’s plans to learn from the greatest breeders of Arabian horses in the world, but brings a British spy to her aid. Amidst the Blitzkrieg and a tense occupation, the two clash over everything—except their efforts to save the horses. Based on true events.
Until Our Time Comes is my debut novel. This has been a 23-year journey for me on this manuscript in particular. It started with a biography book about Arabian stallions and the stories behind each of them. One story in particular opened a world to me and a particular farm in Poland that I would metaphorically live in for decades to come.
This is Janów Podlaski, a state-run horse farm in eastern Poland that has endured hundreds of years of tumult and strife, always rebuilding from the ashes and historically has produced some of the most beautiful and priceless Arabian bloodlines in the world.
This farm is the central location of Until Our Time Comes.
In the researching, writing, editing, and pitching this novel over the years, I’ve always felt lost in the location, and as the novel took shape, the buildings and grounds of Janów became a character itself. It suffered along with the humans and horses in the face of war and it hit me to the core each time.
This area of Poland reminds me fondly of my hometown area here in Southwest Washington state (in terms of greenery), so when I think of the beautiful horses in the field facing tanks and bombers, it feels quite personal.
This story focuses on the impact of war on innocent lives and the human responsibility to care for the helpless. The historic grounds were also a victim — buildings pillaged, burned, and bombed to oblivion. Structures can be rebuilt, but the loss of culture remains.
But the legacy endures. Hope rose from the rubble. And one day, I hope to stand among these incredible horses on the piece of earth that has so captured my heart.
Thank you so much for stopping by and spending some time at Janów Podlaski – from wherever you are in the world.
