This August marks the 4th consecutive year I’ve attended the Oregon Christian Writers Summer Coaching Conference. With a stellar faculty and amazing editors & agents, this conference has been essential to my writing career.

Without the conference:

  • I would have never learned the importance and value of marketing with other writers.
  • I never would have met the Diamond Girls.
  • I never would have met my agent (whom I met in 2009 and signed with in 2010).
  • I never would have put that first novel to rest and written other novels that really honed my skills.
  • I never would have started this website and blog.

Now, as I look ahead to this conference with a new perspective — serving as the Manuscript Coordinator and Social Media Coordinator (and even having the amazing opportunity to teach a workshop on Social Media) — it is funny to see things come full-circle.

The manuscript submission program to me in 2009 was the most frightening thing on the planet. I saw a list of amazing editors and agents – names and publishing houses I recognized after years of reading Inspirational fiction. I had my first book that I’d tinkered with since high school and it would be the first time I really sent it out into the world.

In 2009, I barely used Facebook regularly, much less even cared about Twitter.

Now, years later, I’m a social media coordinator by day (and an avid Twitter and Facebook user.) I’m serving as the manuscript coordinator and helping match up writers with agents and editors. I’m also pitching the book that started my writing affair (though it has been completely overhauled and rewritten many times over.)

I love the symmetry of it all. I think this means that good things are in store. Well, I can say that, because if past years are any indication, each year holds amazing opportunities that go beyond my wildest dreams.

Have you ever seen things in your life come full-circle like this? I’d love to hear about it in the comments!
