Yes.

Nearly three years to the day.

Interesting how the last post and this post correspond to a specific event in my life, the annual Summer Conference hosted by the Oregon Christian Writers.

I wrote then, and I’ll reiterate now, this event has had a huge impact in my life and continues to do so.

This year, in particular, it was the driving deadline to finish up the stubborn last little bit of edits on my novel that I’ve worked on for the past three years.

A lot can happen in three years, and some of this might explain the radio silence:

  • I had another baby (so yes, we have two toddler boys right now who are 18 months apart)
  • We moved to a new home with more property and our homestead boasts of a total of two horses, two dogs, four turkeys, 12 ducks and geese, 14 chickens and I’m itching to get a few goats.
  • Jobs have changed and evolved.
  • We’ve travelled the world with our kids for my work retreats — from Madrid, to Singapore, to San Diego.
  • We’re working to build a farm and all the branding and business that comes with it.

And all the while, I plugged away on my latest novel. It’s perhaps one of very first novels, too—one that has taken a whole new plot several times and gone through at least seven full iterations.

This week, I finally finished it, polished up the proposal and sent it off. (And immediately started working on the next book in the series! Productivity begets productivity,* y’all.)

I’ll post in more detail soon about the ways I chipped at this book (sometimes hand-writing entire sections and re-typing later, sometimes writing scenes out on post its in the middle of the night when things came to me.)

For now, I’m saying, “Hey, blog. Nice to see you again.”

And,

“I’ll see you again soon. Sooner than three years. Probably.”

*Credit to Jon Acuff’s masterful books for this phrase that continually drives me on.
