Another week gone by…
- I’m thankful that I can post this on a Friday and still call it a Thankful Thursday post. Because, why not? 🙂 Seriously, did Thursday disappear for anyone else this week?
- Sick chicken – Poor Bossy came down with the sniffles and an odd breathing issue earlier this week. It was a wake-up call to make sure I had the first aid medicines, antibiotics, de-wormers and everything else I might need in a chicken first-aid kit. After separating her from the flock for a few days and giving her wormer and antibiotics, she seems better, though sneezing occasionally. She was let back to join the flock today and is so much happier! This was a huge lesson for me in letting go of things outside my control. Though we can follow best practices, we can never control the outcome.
- New chickens – A trio of new girls joined the flock this week and they’re older, quieter and slightly odder than our other chickens. Just looking at them brings such a smile to my face.
- Endless bird netting – After the renegade chickens ended up in the street, neighboring fields and our own driveway, I realized more fencing was needed. Instead, we went with bamboo poles and bird netting. It’s lightweight, nearly invisible from a distance, and effective. Four hours of wrangling and wrestling plastic netting and bamboo and zip ties made for one exhausted me, but 20 well-contained birds. #missionaccomplished
- Eggs! – After five months of bird-tending, the payoff has arrived. For a while, we kind of forgot that eggs were even part of the deal. The chickens have just become part of the family.:) Pleasant surprise!

Side note — I’m SUPER thankful this post saved as a draft  – while writing it my website host went down and I thought I’d lost it! So grateful I didn’t need to start from scratch. Small blessings are everywhere. Celebrate them!Â
