A day that began with a makeover from Mary Kay, a gallon of hairspray, my horse coming down with the flu and then learning I misspelled my own last name on a pageant application would end with the experience that altered the course of my life.
On November 7th, 2003, I competed alongside seven other young women for the three places on the Clark County Fair Court. This was only the beginning. I’d meet my future husband that night, meet a woman who led me into other great opportunities and even managed to lock the keys in the truck.
Now—after another queen title, undergrad, getting married, buying a house, getting a big-girl job and writing four novels—I’m starting to see the pieces fall into place.
So the purpose of this blog is to share my journey—the bumps, curves and mountains along the way—and how I’m coping with being confined to city limits during the work week.
I have a long way to go in life, but this blog is how I see the world. Check back – subscribe if you’d like – and tune in for more “Confessions of a Former Rodeo Queen.”

I really love your new confessions! I am enjoying reading so far, and your post this morning really made me think about how to be grateful for some of my challenges.
